The Montblanc “Homage to Nicolas Rieussec” chronograph faithfully replicates the details of the original “time writer” from 1821, but relies on innovative materials and technology to transport the historical device into our contemporary age. As on the original, elapsed time is shown on two rotating discs, above which the motionless hand indicates the elapsed seconds and minutes. A new combination of materials is used on the dial which has been exclusively developed by Montblanc: Super-LumiNova pigments, which are invisible in the daytime, are inlaid all around the hour ring made of hybrid ceramic. As darkness falls, these numerals become visible. The hours- and minutes-hands, which are inlaid with Super-LumiNova, allow clear legibility of the exact time during the day and at night. The Montblanc “Homage to Nicolas Rieussec” chronograph is produced in-house in the Montblanc Manufacture and certified with the Montblanc 500 hours quality certificate. The steel version is limited to 565 pieces – a number honoring Montblanc's 5 Nicolas Rieussec manufacture movements, Nicolas Rieussec's having been the 6th Watchmaker to the French king and the 5 years for which Rieussec's patent on the first chronograph was granted.
