In a nutshell: In The Pines and Calenture, reissued by Domino nearly two decades after their original releases, are two very, very different albums. In The Pines was recorded in aWestern Australian woolshed with more money spent on beer than the studio.
Calenture was recorded in studios in London, Liverpool and Bath, with a major label's money and a soon to be big-name producer. Different, but recognisably the work of the same legendary Perth megastars-who-neverwere.
Imagine if you will: A perfect world where REM are still playing student bars in Athens, Georgia and The Triffids became the biggest band on the planet.
