In a nutshell: A double album to accompany the new concert film, Heima, by the grand Icelandic quartet. So it’s the soundtrack, right? Wrong, Sigur Ros don’t do things the normal way. Hvarf-Heim, is two separate, but complementary, entities: two front covers, a limited edition run of two discs. Hvarf (‘haven’) is a five track electric studio record comprising unreleased rarities from their back-pages. Heim (‘home’) is a six track acoustic record comprising delicate new unplugged versions of their best moments.

Imagine if you will: Boards Of Canada having their laptops ripped from their hands and shoved forcibly behind guitar, bass and drum.

Verdict: A towering achievement from the masters of modern minimalism.
