In a nutshell: Recently it seems that hanging out at the beach with a guitar is an excellent career option. Clearly it helps if multi milion selling Jack Johnson stumbles across you andsigns you to his Brushfire label, but what are the chances of that ? As an 18 year old Matt shattered his leg skateboarding and picked up a guitar to help him through his long recovery. The fruits of his labours were collected on 2005’s very popular Songs We Sing. This, his second album, is more ambitious but equally hummable. Pretty song chases prettier melodies and the effect is akin to being bathed in warm, melodic sunlight. Note to self. Buy guitar, hang out at the beach.

Verdict: A song packed disc of summery delight.
