FANIA DJ SERIES

In a nutshell: New York in the '70s was a cultural melting pot. As Hispanics absorbed the influences of their black neighbours, a hybrid of Latin and jazz with soul and R'n'B was born. And lo, the people dubbed it salsa and decreed all who hear it must dance. Fania Records became synonymous with this Latin creation and now the South Coast's very own beat-making leviathan DJ Format sprinkles his DJ gold dust over a breakneck selection of boogaloo and sweltering Latin grooves.

Imagine if you will: A summer-long street party and a multiculturalists' wet dream.

Verdict: A raucous, rebellious blend of R'n'B motifs and Latin boogaloo.
