In a nutshell: It’s put up or shut up time for Doherty and the Babes, after a (let’s be honest) disappointing debut. Thankfully this time round legendary producer Stephen Street is at the controls, the sound is fatter, the songs are stronger and Pete D sounds like a man reborn. Stuffed with lyrical insights, Peter Doherty and Babyshambles have poured their heart and a huge array of influences into Shotter’s Nation. It shows.

Imagine if you will: Paul Newman (in Cool Hand Luke) taking a pounding from George Kennedy but still getting up for more.

Verdict: A record for fans and newcomers alike. Never mind the bollocks: this time it’s about the music.
